AMARVATI

This is the statue of the Buddha found at Amaravati, in Andra Pradesh, in Southern India. This is where the Buddha conferred the Kalachakra inititation 2500 years ago. It is also here that His Holiness the Dalai Lama bestowed His 30^th Kalachakra initiation in 2006, to a crowd of over 100,000 people.

AJANTA

This is one of the more important Buddhist sites, and a favourite destination for pilgrims. It consists of caves built into a cliff, in which are found temples of various sizes. On their walls are found stunning paintings and carvings of stories of the Buddha’s life, and of His previous lives as a Bodhisattva. Inside the temples, the beams and pillars are all made from a solid piece of rock. It is a remarkable piece of craftsmanship that takes away the imagination. It seems like the very essence of the earth.

ELLORA

Ellora is of breathtaking beauty. Like Ajanta, it consists of caves built into a cliff. It has 34 caves that serve as temples. Some are Buddhist, while others are Hindu and Jain.
